Meet the team captains!

Last week we started to introduce our board members on our Instagram (@fsteamtallinn). Each Thursday, we will present one member. Keep an eye on our posts and get to know the board members better!

Name: Rico Jaanipere

Age: 21

School and study programme: TalTech Mechatronics

What is your position in FS Team Tallinn? Electric Vehicle Team Captain

Why did you join the team? When I was 6 years old I realized that all the birds are not meant to sing. When I turned 8, I realized there isn’t a dance for two left feet. At 19 I realized that I was never going to be a skier, so joining FS Team Tallinn was what was left.

How long have you been a part of the team? 2 years and 6 days

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? Taking the drivetrain apart at a gas station in Finland at 4AM in the morning

Which word describes you as a captain? “Normal”

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a (sub)team’s captain? Having a working coffee machine at the office

Where do you want to be in the future? I would like to get my bachelor’s degree first

Age: 21

What is your position in FS Team Tallinn?Chief Engineer

Why did you join the team? Wanted to practice on the car to become the fastest combine harvester driver on this side of the Atlantic.

How long have you been a part of the team? 2 years, 8 days

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? Laminating the FEST18 monocoque for 48 hours straight, while live streaming it.
Which word describes you as a captain? Bwoah

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being the chief engineer?

Want to find someone stupid enough to buy my BMW.

Where do you want to be in the future? First goal: FSG 2019


Name: Julia Kurg

Age: 22

School and study programme: TalTech Business BSc

What is your position in FS Team Tallinn? Chief of Operations

Why did you join the team? I moved to a different city for university and everyone kept telling me to join a student organisation. I had heard of FSTT before and when I saw FEST17 in the school lobby, something just clicked.

How long have you been a part of the team? It has been over a year now.

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? When my suitcase with all my clothing got flooded on the campsite in Italy and I wore the clothes of my kind teammates the whole night.
Which word describes you as a captain? Committed

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a (sub)team’s captain?

There is a specific event in the statics category where I want to give my best.

Where do you want to be in the future? There is a place on the other side of the world where I can see myself.


Name: Kalev Karp

Why did you join the team?  Seemed like the most interesting place to be at.

How long have you been a part of the team? 2 years

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? Finding out we need to laminate a second monocoque for FEST17. 

Which word describes you as a captain? Sleepy

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a (sub)team’s captain? To create the best possible team for this and next year.

Where do you want to be in the future?  Someplace new and even more challenging

Why did you join the team?  Seemed like the most interesting place to be at.Engineering and racing inspire me the most, luckily, FS Team Tallinn offers them both

How long have you been a part of the team? About 15% of my lifetime

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? 3G lateral acceleration

Which word describes you as a captain? Precise

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a (sub)team’s captain? I want to build fastest and best quality formula.

Where do you want to be in the future? Top places on competitions


Name: Martin Saar

Age: 21

School and study programme: TalTech Mechatronics

What is your position in FS Team Tallinn? Chief of Electronics

Why did you join the team? 2 years ago, at the university a former team member asked if I want to join and he didn’t take no for an answer.

How long have you been a part of the team? 2 years and one month

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team?Relocating the whole electronics and wiring of FEST17 from one monocoque to another in two days.

Which word describes you as a captain? Intrepid

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a (sub)team’s captain? Having a winning car at the competitions.

Where do you want to be in the future? At FSG podium


Name: Martin Ploom

Age: 25

School and study programme: TalTech Communicative Electronics

What is your position in FS Team Tallinn? Driverless Team Captain

Why did you join the team? A Coursemate invited me.

How long have you been a part of the team? Since May 2015

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? Being lost in FS Spain and driving on a field next to a highway with a car full of (drunk) people.

Which word describes you as a captain? Thorough

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a driverless team captain? Finishing two driverless competitions during the 2019 summer competitions.

Where do you want to be in the future? I don’t know. I Haven’t had the time to think about my personal life for the last 3 and a half years (life of a FS member …)


Name: Kaarel Värk

Age: Approximately 8600 days

School and study programme: TalTech MSc Informatics

Quote to live by: Great things never came from comfort zones

What is your position in FS Team Tallinn? Chief Engineer of Driverless

Why did you join the team? A friend said that it’s more like a hobbycar than a robotics club.

How long have you been a part of the team? As long as I have attended university

Which experience/event do you remember the best while being a part of the team? Having 14 minutes and 45 seconds to get to endurance while the accumulator was still in the fridge.

Which word describes you as a captain?Demanding

What is the biggest goal you want to achieve while being a Chief Engineer of Driverless? To finish all the dynamic events with the driverless formula vehicle!
